PAP 14 – Comics Round-Up: The Second One

Come with us as we return to the world of word balloons, the planet of panels, the other alliterative places of comic book jargon.

This episode we gush about New 52 Batman, Sex Criminals, The Wicked + The Divine, Saga and D4VE.

This time out we make an inventory of Christopher Nolan’s films, from Following to The Dark Knight Trilogy.

No, we won’t make a joke about needing or deserving him.

PAP 11 – Dead Pilot Society

This season on Fox… in an alternate universe.

The only thing worse than a classic series cancelled after one season is a classic series which didn’t live beyond its first 40 minutes. The better the pilot the more frustrating the viewing experience. And then there’s the ones that should be buried in a deep cold grave and have the earth above them salted.

In this episode we tune into Mockingbird Lane, Heat Vision & Jack, Lookwell, Timm’s Valley and (God help us) Delirium.

PAP 10 – Animated Movies Off Yon Beaten Track

In this episode we shun the Disney-Pixars of the world and instead look toward the animated movies that rarely clog up your Netflix suggestions page.

We aww at the adorable dark comedy of Mary & Max, enjoy storybook French slapstick in The Triplets of Belleville, tackle heavy documentary subjects with a twist in Waltz With Bashir and follow our dreams with Paprika.

PAP 09 – I Disagree and Here’s Why You’re Wrong

♫ ♪ You like something I don’t like, doo-daa doo-daa. I might try to change your mind, oh da doo-da day ♫ ♪

Today we delve into the murky waters of unpopular opinions. We pull back the veil of popular culture, point to a few particular spots and say “see that? That’s shit that is”. Hopefully with a bit more decorum than that.

PAP 08 – One Day, In Two Parts (Part 2)

According to the Morissette English Dictionary, “Irony” is defined as “ray-ee-ayne on your wedding day.” So this is a bit like that.

In this episode we talk about movies which take place over the course of a single day (again). In particular we discuss Empire Records, Glengarry Glen Ross, Clerks and briefly mention 12 Angry Men, Dog Day Afternoon and Do The Right Thing.

PAP 06 – Mutant Enemies of the Big Screen (Grr Argh)

It was bound to happen… We did an episode entirely devoted to the movies of Joss Whedon.

We touch on all of his major cinematic forays including Serenity, Cabin in the Woods, The Avengers, Much Ado, and generally gush for about 45 minutes.

Sound good? Good.

In Joss we trust. Amen.

PAP 05 – Comics Round-Up

Comics are essentially just like films, but without all that unnecessary movement. In this week’s show we recommend the best comics from the unearthly pile we’ve been reading this year.

From classic superhero stories featuring The Caped Crusader and the Man of Tomorrow, to indie gold from the likes of Jeff Lemire and Joe Hill. And if you’re not “into” comic books, then that’s even more reason to tune in.

PAP 04 – Sir Charlton Brooker vs The World

Acerbic, sullen and misthropic comedy at it’s finest. Charlie Brooker is one of the best writers working in Britain today and after over a decade slumming it on late night BBC 4 he’s finally gone mainstream, and we couldn’t be happier. Because who knew being a cranky fuck could be done so beautifully?

We tried to cover the bulk of work from his gut-busting review shows to his award-winning dramas. Video Games may have changed the world, but he’s changed the art of critique. Don’t say he didn’t; he did.

PAP 03 – Orphan is the New Black

2013 was pretty awesome TV wise. But this little gem from BBC America was last year’s dark horse. 13 episodes of dark, funny, gripping, semi-Whedony sci-fi drama.

We live in hope that in 20 years time, students will be analysing Tatiana Maslany’s wicked acting chops.

PAP 02 – Funny People: From the Giggle Clubs to the Gogglebox

Inspired by the pilot of Marc Maron’s eponymous sitcom, we decided to do a roundup of the best (and worst) TV shows given to stand up comedians throughout the years.

We also briefly touch on that one little show about the dude, with the voice, set in New York. What’s that even about?

For our inaugural episode we discuss the best, worst and most confusing parts of David Lynch’s Twin Peaks.

From cherry pie to damn fine coffee, garmonbozia to Ms Audrey Horne.

We even included clips of our real-time reactions to our first viewing of the final episode.
